William “Bill” Gilford Carter, formally of Independence and Kearney, MO, passed away on December 16, 2015. He is the beloved husband of Julie Carter nee Colangelo of Wentzville, MO. He is also survived by his daughter, Mary Lynn (Tim) Handlan of Des Peres, MO; three grandchildren: Scott (Melissa), Jeffrey and Lauren Handlan; two great-grandchildren: Jenna and Dylan Handlan from the St. Louis area; two sisters: Dorothea Young and Ellen Richardson both of North Kansas City, MO, several nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Gilford and Emma Carter nee Sturgis and sisters: Josephine Wright and Verna Goldsbury. Bill was a truck mechanic for over 37 years for Jack Cooper’s Transport and UPS. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Teamsters Union. He was an active member for many years at The Church of the Annunciation in Kearney, MO. Bill was a proud Navy veteran, having served 4 years during the Korean War. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and visiting daily with friends over coffee in Kearney. Bill will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 21st, at 11:30 a.m. at Twin Oaks at Heritage Pointe in Wentzville, MO.
