Alfred Wilmes Obituary

Alfred J. Wilmes passed away on April 1, 2025 at the age of 98.

He is survived by his seven children, Bill Wilmes of Flint Hill, MO, Mike (Donna) Wilmes of Flint Hill, MO, Dick Wilmes of Flint Hill, MO, Pat (Ronald “Casey”) Koch of Moscow Mills, MO, Rita (Steve) Wortmann of Flint Hill, MO, Tim (Carol) Wilmes of St. Paul, MO, and Ted (Marilyn) Wilmes of Flint Hill, MO; grandchildren, Gary Wilmes, Rachel (Wilmes) Johnson, Krissy Wilmes, Kenny Wilmes, Joe Wilmes, Steven Wilmes, Sheri (Koch) Loftsgard, Doug Koch, Dana (Koch) Wernimont, Katy Wortmann, Kevin Wortmann, Kyle Wortmann, Michael Wortmann, Maury Wilmes, Andy Wilmes, Spencer Wilmes, Jessie (Wilmes) Hansen, Jake Wilmes, Jenna Wilmes, and Jamie Wilmes; 33 great-grandchildren; siblings, Urban “Urbie” Wilmes and Margie (Wilmes) Tochtrop; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Tony “Tinse” Wilmes, mother, Anna (Hakenewerth) Wilmes; his loving wife of 68 years, Jean (Prinster) Wilmes; siblings, Elmer Wilmes, Clarence Wilmes, Irene (Wilmes) Eisenbath, Edna (Wilmes) Roettger, Edgar “Ted” Wilmes, Mary (Wilmes) Burkemper, and Anthony “Pin” Wilmes; great-grandson, Lucas Koch; and daughter-in-law, Janice Wilmes.

A proud Army Veteran, Alfred served in the United States Army during World War II, dedicating two years to his country with honor and courage. He was a lifelong farmer and was known for his fantastic garden. He worked for Monsanto for many years retiring in 1985. Alfred loved playing baseball and playing music. He was a man of many talents, he played guitar and was the lead singer in a country music band, renowned for his distinctive voice and his hearty laugh. His laugh filled any room. In addition, he enjoyed the thrill of coon hunting and cherished the time spent outdoors.  As a devoted member of St. Theodore Parish, he was a spiritual anchor for his family, frequently praying the rosary for their well-being. He loved his family and loved his role as a husband, dad, and grandpa.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
