Beverly Jean Nicholson (Grubb) - February 8, 1934 - February 6, 2025
Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, Beverly Nicholson, age 90, passed peacefully at her residence on February 6, 2025 surrounded by her children, Julia, Diane and David.
Beverly (Bev) was born in Detroit, Michigan, where she lived with her parents, Boyce and Helen Grubb and sisters, Frances, Sandra and Judith. She attended Royal Oak High School and business college prior to marriage and children.
Beverly’s first career was one she was always proud of as an Executive Assistant to the senior staff at the (then) brand new, state of the art, GM Tech Center, in Detroit. Over the years, she also volunteered for non profit causes including the Historical Society rehabilitation of the Sappington House, in Crestwood, MO. Though she moved often, she found fulfillment in holding a variety of positions wherever she lived, often as an administrative assistant and then as an indispensable medical assistant to several physicians.
As an adult, she learned to play the piano, just because she always wanted to learn. She was the school crossing guard when her kids were young. She was an excellent contract bridge player and card game aficionado which combined her competitive spirit, her great hostess skills and, of course, fun loving nature. She also had a life long love of singing and sang in her church choirs. In St Louis, she spent many a fun year with her girlfriends in a kitchen band sharing their joint love of singing, entertaining and having fun with others. She was a excellent bowler and played her entire life holding high averages until age and eye sight limited her fun of the game. Well into her 80’s, she was still able to achieve 200+ games which she delighted in sharing with anyone who would listen. She also loved her St Louis Cardinals and would never miss an opportunity to go or listen the games. And she travelled, making trips to Europe, Asia and traveling the USA by air, car and even by riverboat.
She moved several times over her life, raising her children and making friends in MO, AL, WV, OH, ultimately spending the last 45 years in the St Louis region. She married, Eugene Nicholson, in 1995, and they spent many years in Lake St Louis with Bev and Gene welcoming many at gatherings - swimming and boating and entertaining their many friends, neighbors and family. Gene and Beverly had the “best parties” and Beverly, as hostess, was known for her hospitality, generous nature and quirky, fun loving personality.
Bev is preceded in death by her parents, Boyce and Helen Grubb, her husband, Gene Nicholson, her sister, Frances Sweeney, and her step son, Wayne Nicholson. Beverly is survived by her children, Julia (Keith) Given, Diane (Randy) Jordan, and David (Robin) Williams, step-daughter, Nikki Moon, her sisters, Sandra and Judith, her beloved grandchildren, Adam Williams, Hillary Given, Anna Williams Barry, Jessi Given Mitchell, Michael Williams, Maria Williams and her two great granddaughters, and many loving, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
We would expressly like to thank, Julie Kaempke, for being Bev’s caregiver and, most of all, for being her friend. We could never express our gratitude and appreciation what she meant to Bev and will always mean to her family. Finally, our thanks to all her other caregivers who can never be repaid for all you do.
A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held in Troy, Michigan on May 10, 2025 followed by a private burial service at White Chapel Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest near family. In lieu of flowers, the family request any donations be shared with the Humane Society of St Louis or ASPCA.
