It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Diane L. Medlar, who peacefully passed away on December 29, 2024 at the age of 73. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she was cherished by all who knew her for her unwavering kindness, positivity, and selflessness.
Born in Binghamton, NY to Doris (Harrison) and William Deakin, Diane was a woman of deep faith and devotion. As a long-time member of St. John’s Parish in Susquehanna, PA, and St. Patrick’s Parish in Wentzville, MO, she enjoyed singing in the choir and folk groups. She lived a life that was a testament to love, faith, and family. Diane was always active, enjoying long walks, playing golf with her husband and children, and staying engaged in her community and church activities. Her cheerful spirit and vibrant energy uplifted everyone around her.
As a young woman, Diane was involved in church activities and served as head cheerleader, demonstrating her energetic spirit and love for life from an early age. Throughout her life, she was a beacon of positivity and hope, always seeing the best in people and never speaking a negative word about anyone.
A courageous and loving woman, Diane married the love of her life, David, at the age of 17 and supported him throughout his army career. Their journey together took them around the world, including to Okinawa, where she worked as the Executive Secretary to a Colonel at a large army hospital. She was a natural leader and a steadfast partner, always finding ways to help others and show her love and devotion.
Before retiring, Diane had a fulfilling career as the Transportation Director of Barnes-Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna, PA where she was known for her dedication, attention to detail, and gentle leadership. Her greatest joy, however, came from her family. She loved her children and grandchildren more than life itself, and they were the center of her world.
Diane was the epitome of grace and generosity. Her selflessness and devotion to her family were unparalleled, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John Deakin and William Deakin and two sisters, Linda Deakin and Beatrice Eichenberg, all of Susquehanna, PA. She is survived by her beloved husband, David A. Medlar of Wentzville, MO, her children David S (Rebecca) Medlar of Wentzville, MO, Michael (Erin) Medlar of Churchville, NY, and Jeffrey (Denise) Medlar of North East, MD, her grandchildren Lauren (Ian), Zackary, Adam, Luke, and Nicholas, sister Joyce (Royce) Neidlinger of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, sister-in-law, Beth Deakin, brother-in-law, Terry Eichenberg both of Susquehanna, PA and many extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Tunnel to Towers and Disabled American Veterans True Heroes.
May she rest in peace, forever loved and forever remembered.
