Donald “Don” Hilgert of Wentzville, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on May 25, 2026, at the age of 74.
Don was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Oreon and Helen Hilgert. He later met the love of his life, Karen, and they were married on May 22, 1982. Together they built a loving family and raised their three children, Amy, Steve, and Shari.
Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1970 to 1976. He dedicated 40 years of his career to working in Technical Support at NISC (National Information Solutions Cooperative) in Lake St. Louis.
Don loved God and his country. He was a devoted fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Kansas City Chiefs football. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, watching nature cameras, and was known for taking selfies wherever he went. Above all, Don cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and loved attending their sporting events and cheering them on.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Hilgert (née Schatz) of Wentzville, Missouri; his three children, Amy (Chris) Fritz of Coppell, Texas, Steve (Jeanne) Hilgert of Wentzville, Missouri, and Shari Rogers of St. Charles, Missouri; his brother, David Hilgert of Groveland, Florida; his sisters, Karen McKenna of Chesterfield, Missouri, and Shirley (Rich) Hausladen; and his five cherished grandchildren, Garrin, Alise, Ruby, Jace, and Dawson.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Oreon G. Hilgert and Helen F. Hilgert (née Luebbert); his sister-in-law, Linda Hilgert; and his brother-in-law, Bill McKenna.
Don will be remembered for his faith, his love for his family, his sense of humor, and the joy he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed.
The family is being served by Pitman Funeral Home in Wentzville.
