Dr. Lester Joseph Schmucker, 95, a long-time resident of Wentzville, Missouri, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 at McClay Senior Care in St. Peters, Missouri.
The youngest son of Charles E. and Clara A. (nee Koester) Schmucker, was born December 12, 1925 in Gilmore, Missouri.
On Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1949 at Assumption Catholic Church in O’Fallon, Missouri, Les married the love of his life Mary Lois Knoll. God called Mary Home on March 22, 2006.
Lester’s parents and two older brothers, Elmer and Ralph “Bud” preceded him in death.
Les and Mary are survived by their four children. Son, James (Mindy) Schmucker of Washington, Missouri. Daughters Gail Anne (Mike) Taylor of Wildwood, Missouri; Marilyn (Mike) Duvall of Wentzville, Missouri and Kathleen (Steve) Burton of Troy, Missouri. Les was blessed with eight grandchildren: Angela Borgmann and Heather McCormick; Katherine McElhone and Stephen Taylor; Michael Joseph Duvall and Kenneth Duvall; Timothy Burton and Christina Burton; and eight great-grandchildren.
Doc served the Wentzville area for 42 years as a Chiropractor. During that time, he was District 7 President of the Missouri State Chiropractic Association. While a life-long parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church, he joined the Knights of Columbus and had a tenure as Grand Knight. An Alderman and Board of Adjustment President were some of the duties he performed while living in Wentzville. As a World War II veteran, Doc became a 70+ year member of the American Legion Post 323, where he held numerous positions including Commander. Mary Lois and Doc enjoyed being members of the 100 Dance Club. After retiring in 1991, they traveled extensively.

The funeral Mass and Rosary were said at 10 am on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Church in Wentzville, Missouri. It was a private ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Color Guard was present as Legionnaires carried Lester’s casket to his final resting place, where he was given a twenty-one-gun salute. As bagpipes played, his family laid him to rest in St. Patrick’s Cemetery next to his dear wife, Mary Lois.
