Evelyn Newhouse, born February 15, 1922, died peacefully in her home in Wentzville, Missouri on November 24, 2022, surrounded by many of her loving family members. Although it is always sad to say goodbye to a wonderful woman, such as Evelyn, she will always be held in the hearts of her daughter, Sandi (Jim) and her son, Bud (Syliva) as well as her 3 grandchildren: Laura (Erik), Ami, and Nathan (Sarah); great-grandchildren: Ethan, Lucy, Casey, Austin, Jordan (Kayla), Sean, Natalie, Kiara, Ashleigh, Emilee; great-great-grandchildren: Madysyn, Eli, Micah, Grayson, Liam, Skylar and too many nieces and nephews to name.
Evelyn prided herself on being self-sufficient and ready to help anyone in need. She believed in God and knew she would be reunited with her mother, Thelma and father, Lyman and seven siblings in heaven. Working tirelessly in a group that made blankets and teddy bears for children in wheelchairs, she hosted luncheons for these ladies and truly believed in their blessing the children.
Evelyn served in the United States Army from August 6, 1943 to November 17, 1945. She rose to the rank of Sargent, Hq 300th AAF Base Unit Tampa, Florida. Decorations of WAAC Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
She held the position of executive secretary to the president of a major corporation for many years in Murphysboro, IL after retiring she moved back to St. Louis to be closer to family and friends.
Evelyn enjoyed traveling through the United States and many other countries around the world. She never tired of seeing how other cultures lived and how they differed from hers.
Evelyn spent her final days reading in her home and visiting with the many family members who came to visit from throughout the country.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 10th at 1:30 pm at The Chapel of the Lake, 11000 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Lake St. Louis, MO 63367. Interment to follow at Memorial Park, 5200 Lucas Hunt, St. Louis, MO 63121.
