George Humphries, II Obituary

George McGowin Humphries, II, aka “Pops” passed away on July 31, 2026 at the age of 97.

He is survived by two sons, George “Mac” Humphries III, Henry Towns Humphries, and daughter Leigh Ann (Humphries) Yeager; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and two great -great grandsons. He is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years Nell Towns Humphries, his parents, his sister Ann Linton Humphries, his son David Bruce Humphries and his grandson Hayes Humphries.

George was born October 3, 1928, in Bay Minette, Alabama; son of the late George McGowin Humphries, Sr., and Ann Linton Humphries. He served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Warship Wantuck, APD125 in the South Pacific. He married Nell in 1951 and lived in Nashville, TN for 10 years, and, was a charter member of Brookhollow First Baptist Church. He lived in Creve Coeur, MO for 20 years and was a Charter Member of Parkway Baptist Church. He lived in Lake St. Louis, MO for 38 years and was a charter member of Lake St. Louis First Baptist Church.

George (aka “Moose”), was a 1951 graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. George was an emeritus member of the Ambassadors Organization since 1985 and a Gideon for 25 years.

George’s vibrant personality and colorful storytelling will be missed by his family and many friends.
