James J. Prendergast of Wentzville, Missouri, passed away on April 19, 2026, at the age of 90. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maureen Prendergast (née: McCallon) of Wentzville, Missouri; three sons, Michael Prendergast, Dan (Ellen) Prendergast, and James (Ann) Prendergast; son-in-law, Michael King; grandchildren, Kathleen, Elena, Matthew, Samantha, Sarah, Annie, Kevin, Keri, Erin, Kyle, Matthew, Seamus, Ally, and Maggie; seventeen, great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, James Prendergast, mother, Ellen Prendergast (née: Culloty), and daughter, Ellen Theresa King.
James honorably served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany from 1954 until 1956. Before and after his military service, James pursued his passion for baseball as a professional baseball player in the minor leagues.
On October 22, 1960, James was united in marriage to Maureen, and together they were blessed with four children: Ellen, Michael, Dan, and James. They made their home in Bellefontaine Neighbors, where they built a loving family and many cherished memories.
James dedicated 29 years of service to General Motors before his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, golfing, and coaching baseball. He and Maureen especially treasured their time as snowbirds in Florida.
Above all else, James was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a man of deep faith, very devoted to his church, and found great comfort in attending adoration. Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, James passed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and dedication.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The Prendergast Family is being served by Pitman Funeral Home, Wentzville.
