James Rushing Obituary

James E. Rushing passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025 at the age of 85.  He is survived by his 3 daughters, Deborah Sue (Gene) McKean of Wentzville, MO; Jill (Christopher) Robison of St. Louis, MO; and Jennifer Rushing of OFallon, MO, 5 grandchildren, Katherine (John) Moore, Alex McKean, Nicholas Miller, William Robison and Emelyn Robison and 2 great grandchildren, James and Clara Moore.  He also leaves behind a dear sister, Evelyn Hunter of Bryan, Texas.

James was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He was devoted to his cherished wife, Carol Sue, who preceded him in death.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, John Elwood Rushing and Mary Lou (Youngblood) Rushing and his brother, John Mark Rushing.

Born in Abilene, TX, James grew up splitting his time between Texas and Venezuela, where his father worked in oil production.  Many of James’s tales of adventure were from his days as a carefree youth in Lake Maracaibo.  He attended Allen Military Academy in Bryan, Texas, where he met his wife Carol.  He was also a star athlete, playing football, baseball and basketball, and an expert marksman, rising to the rank of Lt. Colonel.  James worked at Southwestern Bell in St. Louis, MO for 25 years before retiring and eventually moving to Dardenne Prairie to enjoy time with his family and beloved dogs, Lilly, Rosie and Daisy, his flower children, and his granddog, Cooper.

James was a kind and generous man who made friends wherever he went.  He loved to joke around and shared his smile with everyone.  He is missed by his family and the family he found later in life, the loving and compassionate women who helped care for him and his wife, Melissa Pitts, Amanda Bowman and Rachel Pontius.  We are grateful for our cherished memories of him and know that he is finally resting with his beloved by his side.

The family is being served by Pitman Funeral Home in Wentzville.
