James “Jim” D. Hopkins, age 82, passed away on April 5th, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long battle with heart disease.
He was born December 2, 1942, son of James W. Hopkins and June Loretta (O’Dowd) Hopkins. Jim was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he worked as a Postal Carrier. After his retirement he had several other jobs. He worked for his family-owned restaurant and bar in Creve Coeur, A Penny’s Worth & Co. He also spent 14 years working for Wal-Mart in the Sporting Goods Dept.
Jim was an avid bowler and was a member of a men’s bowling league for many years. He also enjoyed reading and gardening. In his younger years, he liked to go hunting with his dog Pepper.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Chris (Sherwood) Hopkins and his sister, Sharon (Hopkins) Holden. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Patrick J. Hopkins.
Jim was a very proud uncle and great uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed traveling to see his family and will be greatly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
