Ammerman, Jan Aaron, 84, passed away on June 28, 2025, surrounded by family at his home in New Melle, Missouri. Jan affected a multitude of lives, sharing his lifelong passion for music as a dedicated high school choral director and music educator for the Francis Howell (1963-1968) and Hazelwood School Districts (1968-2000).
Parallel to his teaching career, Jan entertained audiences on piano as a professional solo performer, and with innumerable talented and diverse musicians and vocalists, spanning several decades in the greater St. Louis area. He was a feature at numerous music venues: Clubs on Gaslight Square, riverboats on Laclede’s Landing, shows at The Grandel Theatre, The Muny, country clubs, retirement communities, private parties, and corporate events, including the St. Louis Cardinals. Charitable endeavors included over a decade as the Music Director for the St. Louis ShowStoppers Musical Revue - benefiting the Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the Siteman Cancer Center. His calendar remained full with gigs - most often, alongside Dynamic Duo friend and bassist, Bob Stout.
Jan was born in Germantown, Indiana, December 18, 1940, to parents Francis and Pollyanna (Kitchel) Ammerman. He met his wife Beverly Mae (Graf), from Newark, New York, at the St. Louis Institute of Music - which later merged with the St. Louis Symphony Community Music School at Webster University, creating the St. Louis Conservatory and School for the Arts (CASA). Wed on August 17, 1963, Jan and Bev were grateful to have celebrated almost 62 years of music-filled marriage together.
Jan is survived by loving wife Beverly, daughters Lori Ammerman and Julie (Mark) Dobson; grandchildren Neil (Cassidy) Rosenbloom (with twin great-grandbabies on the way), Sarah Dobson, Emily Dobson and Katherine Dobson; brother Jay (Paula) Ammerman, and sister-in-law Janet (Rinehart) Ammerman (brother Dion Kent, deceased).
