Janice Marie Amptmann (née Roettger), of Flint Hill, passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 96.
Born on January 25, 1929, in Flint Hill, Janice was the beloved daughter of Charles and Katherine Roettger, Sr. She remained a lifelong resident of Flint Hill, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, and community. On June 30, 1951, she married the love of her life, Clarence Amptmann, at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage before his passing.
Janice was a devoted member of St. Theodore Catholic Church throughout her life, where she actively participated in parish life and volunteered for many years at the Mary Martha Thrift Shop. A familiar and friendly face in the community, Janice loved the annual church picnics and cherished her time spent with the close-knit Flint Hill community.
Family was always at the heart of Janice’s life. Janice was one of the original founders of the annual Roettger Family Reunion which has been ongoing for 50 years, on the 4th of July, a tradition that brought generations together. She took great joy in attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and supporting them in all their endeavors.
Janice had a passion for quilting, gardening, and canning in her younger years. She was an excellent baker, best known for her delicious cinnamon rolls. In her later years, she enjoyed playing bingo, going on yearly bus tours to Tunica, and taking trips to Branson. A fan of country music and time spent with loved ones; Janice lived a full and joyful life.
She is survived by her two sons, Richard (Linda) Amptmann of Boling Brook, IL, Wayne (Linda) Amptmann of St. Charles, MO ; two daughters, Nancy Dingerson of Foristell, MO, Lisa (Larry) Swagman of O Fallon, MO; sister, Mary Ann Hakenewerth; two sisters-in-law, Alice (wife of Omar) Roettger, Alice (wife of Claude) Roettger; 7 grandchildren, Bryan, Jason, Justin, Katy, Kristen, Kara, and Austin; 11 great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Grace, Blake, Bennett, Kenzie, Bella, Paisley, Sofia, Oliver, Karmen, and Baby Swagman.
She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Roettger, Sr., mother, Katherine (Kampmann) Roettger, husband, Clarence C. Amptmann, son-in-law, Ken Dingerson, brothers, Lester Roettger, Robert Roettger, Omar Roettger, Claude Roettger, Louis Roettger, Orville Roettger, Raymond Roettger, Charles Roettger, and sister, Luella Vehige, sisters-in-law, Della Roettger, Alvera Roettger, Grace Roettger, Edna Roettger, and Darlene Roettger, brothers-in-law, Alphonse Vehige and Melvin Hakenewerth.
Janice’s warmth, kindness, and community spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
