Janice Shepherd Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our loving Mother, Janice Marie Shepherd (nee Denny), who left us on 11/4/2025 at the age of 78. She went peacefully with her family at her bedside. She is survived by her beloved children, Jeana (Eric) Newbauer of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, and Tom H. Shepherd II of Bethesda, Maryland, and her four cherished grandchildren, Samantha (Harry), Sydney, Nicholas, and Laney, who lovingly referred to her as “Nanny.” Janice also leaves behind her dear sister Patricia Shinsky of Cookeville, Tennessee as well as her brother-in-law Phil L. Shepherd of New Hope, Pennsylvania, and her treasured great-granddaughter Blakely.

Janice is preceded in death by her husband Thomas H. Shepherd—whom we lost just 10 weeks prior—her parents, Neil and Erelene Denny as well as her adored Sister Nancy "Nan" Stout.

Janice was born 12/24/1946 in Baxter Tennessee. She attended Tennessee Technological University and majored in Biology and Math. Janice was an avid golfer and was accomplished enough to have had two hole-in-one’s. She loved playing golf with her friends and treasured her time with them. She was a master Mahjong player and loved to win her quarters.

Janice will be remembered as a woman that loved her family deeply. Her wisdom and cooking skills will be passed on to all future family generations. Janice lived her last year and a half with so much grace, courage and strength. She had recently lost her eyesight while fighting a very long battle with cancer like a true warrior.

She will be happy to be going home to our dad "Poppy" who will be waiting with the golf clubs and surrounded by a heavenly golf course. May all of your shots be pin high.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Sunrise Senior Living of Des Peres as well as St. Croix Hospice.

“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”  We miss you, and our hearts ache with sadness.

Donations may be made in Jan’s honor to The American Cancer Society or St. Croix Hospice of Wildwood Missouri.

The family is being served by Pitman Funeral Home in Wentzville, MO.
