Jim Rocco Donato

James Rocco Donato, age 70, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Marie Donato (née Level) of Lake St. Louis, Missouri; his two daughters, Melanie (Justin) Gifford and Katherine Donato; and his cherished grandchildren, Bennett Rocco Gifford and Emerson Claire Gifford. He is also survived by his sister, Janice (David) Muenz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Margaret Donato (née Cottone), and his brother John (Nancy) Donato.

He also leaves behind a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.

Jim was known for his infectious laugh, big smile, and quick wit. He never met a stranger and was the kind of person who left a lasting impression—whether you met him once or had the privilege of knowing him for years. A loyal friend and natural storyteller, he built a life full of connection.

Professionally, Jim, also known as Rocco, was a standout in the railroad industry with over 45 years of leadership in sales, project management, and operations. His achievements and network were extensive, and his dedication earned him the prestigious honor of Railroader of the Year in 2018, a testament to his impact and excellence in the field.

Outside of work, in his younger years he found joy in the lanes—an accomplished bowler who proudly rolled a perfect 300 game, a feat that few achieve. More recently, he has been enjoying his love of golf and connecting with friends on the golf course.

A visitation will be held Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, followed by a service at 12:00 at Pitman Funeral Home, 1545 Wentzville Parkway, Wentzville, MO 63387.  A procession to Our Lady Cemetery in Lake St. Louis will immediately follow.

Jim was deeply loved and will be missed by many—but his laughter, legacy, and stories will live on in all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
