Joseph (JD) Moffat Obituary

Joseph Dale (JD) Moffat passed away on October 2, 2025 at the age of 40.
JD was born September 16, 1985 in Washington, MO to William and Cheryl Moffat nee Owenby.
JD had a heart that was bigger than life itself, he had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard and loved. His warmth, his laughter, and his kindness touched so many-- especially the children he adored. Whether it was through his playful spirit, his gentle patience, or the way he made them feel special, JD had a gift for connecting with kids, and they gravitated to him naturally.
JD had a passion for music and shared it with everyone around him. JD learned music from a young age where his grandfather and dad taught him to play, his passion was the drums but he also loved to strum the guitar. He had spent many of nights sitting around with family and friends jamming.
His absence leaves an unfillable space in our hearts, but his memory lives on in every smile he inspired and every life he brightened. Though his time with us was short, the impact JD made was lasting. His legacy is love--deep unconditional, and unforgettable.

He is preceded in death by his father, William (Billy Bones) Moffat, grandfather, Russell Wayne Owenby, grandfather, James Lloyd Moffat, Jr.; grandmother, Georgia Lee Moffat nee Meagher; aunt, Sharon Owenby, cousin, James Aaron Moffat, cousin, Ryan Dale Owenby.
JD survived by his mother, Cheryl Carroz and her husband Rick of Warrenton, MO; two sisters, Heather (Eric) Aune of Zimmerman, MN, Jessica (Kris) Frye of Wentzville, MO; 4 nephews and niece Ethan and Jacob Aune of Zimmerman, MN; Tristan, Ezekiel (Zeke), and Parklyn Frye of Wentzville, MO; grandmother, Marilyn Owenby of Warrenton, MO; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. JD's warmth, kindness and sweet smile will live on in all those he touched.
