Joseph Thomas Ellis, Jr. of Wentzville, Missouri, passed away on January 21, 2025, at the age of 80. He was the beloved husband of Georgia Ellis (née Turner) of Wentzville. He is survived by his son, Christopher (Renee) Ellis of Wentzville, MO; brother, Don (Carolyn) Ellis of St. Louis, MO; sister, Jeanne (Gary) Brickson of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Adam (Kellee) Ellis, Jonathan (Tiffany) Ellis, Tyler (Nicole) Morice, Alexxis Morice (Aaron Sutton), Zoe Ellis; and seven great-grandchildren, Amiya, Raelynn, Harper, Colton, Nolan, Kenley, and Clayton. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Thomas Ellis, Sr., and mother, Doris Ann Ellis (née Burton).
Joseph served with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a medic, exemplifying courage and commitment to his country and fellow soldiers. After his military service, Joseph had a distinguished career as a business operations manager for several companies including Curtin Matheson Scientific, Honeywell and Nestle. He later joined the United States Postal Service, serving for 11 years. Joseph's unwavering loyalty, strong sense of duty, and compassionate nature left a lasting impact on all who knew him, creating a legacy of prioritizing family first while recognizing the importance of hard work and service.
Joseph was a humble and reserved man but fiercely loyal, with deep love for his large family. He always wanted to know how they were doing, asking about their lives and truly listening. In his younger years, he loved playing golf, baseball, and roller hockey. A passionate sports enthusiast, he was an unwavering fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues and Manchester United cheering for his teams through tough years and championship campaigns. His love for sports extended to NASCAR, the Kansas City Chiefs, City STL Soccer and whichever school his grandchildren attended, most recently the MIZZOU Tigers. And his family always fought to get him on their team when playing trivia or games that needed his unbelievable memory.
Faith was a cornerstone of Joseph’s life. He held his beliefs quietly and close to his heart, but actively participated in the Sunday night Bible study at First Baptist in Lake St. Louis, where he found close friends. His dedication to his faith was a source of strength and comfort for him. Above all, Joseph treasured time with his family and loved watching them grow. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed enough to know and love him. And for those that did, close your eyes and remember his smile.
