Kathleen Maxine Sommer, 72, passed away peacefully in her home on January 7, 2026.
Kathleen grew up in a large, close-knit family and cherished her role as a keeper of family history. She took great pride in sharing stories, photographs, and memories that kept generations connected. Family was at the center of her life, and her greatest joy came from becoming a mother and grandmother.
In her spare time, Kathleen enjoyed crocheting, often creating heartfelt pieces for those she loved. Above all else, she treasured time spent with family and friends.
Kathleen is survived by her two sons, Dr. Seth Kessler and his wife, Dr. Anne Major, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Torrey Kessler of Warrenton, Missouri; her beloved granddaughter, Cassidy Kessler; five brothers, Dennis Sommer of Wright City, Missouri, Edward Sommer and his wife Karen of O’Fallon, Missouri, Paul Sommer and his wife Susan of Moscow Mills, Missouri, Jerry Sommer and his wife Christine of St. Charles, Missouri, and Michael Sommer of O’Fallon, Missouri; and two sisters, Mary Jo Milster of O’Fallon, Missouri, and Veronica Mirgain of St. Louis, MO. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Joan Sommer; her brother-in-law, William Mirgain; and her brother, Gary Sommer, who passed at birth.
Her legacy lives on through the stories she shared and the family she cherished.
