Leon D. Vaupel passed away on April 19, 2025, in Tampa, Florida, at the age of 78. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia "Cindy" Anderson; his daughter, Lauren Vaupel; and granddaughter, Kathryn High; He is preceded in death by his father, Glenn Carl Vaupel; mother, Merle Edythe (Dorland) Vaupel; brothers, Dwayne Vaupel and Darryl Vaupel; nephews, Daniel Vaupel and Theodore "Ted" Vaupel.
Leon's military career in the U.S. Army, Field Artillery Branch was distinguished and commendable. He served with valor, receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Award while serving in Vietnam, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Leon was an avid sports enthusiast. He found joy in attending New York Yankees baseball games and was a familiar face at their spring training games in Florida. In addition, he was enthusiastic about the Kentucky Derby, attending many throughout the years from his college days at Asbury College to just the last recent years. He started taking his daughter Lauren when she was just 5 years old on their "father, daughter" weekend. Travel and old cars cars were among Leon's other interests.
Leon's life was a reflection of service, sportsmanship, and adventure. He will be deeply missed.
