Leonard “Roger” DeCelles of Marthasville, Missouri, passed away suddenly on September 1 at the age of 87. He was born on December 29, 1933 to the late Florence (Vandel) and George DeCelles Sr. in Laconia, New Hampshire.
Roger married the love of his life, Esther, on March 19, 1955 and they celebrated 64 years of marriage before her passing in 2019. He was a veteran of the US Navy and retired from National Steel where he worked as a welder. Roger and Esther thoroughly enjoyed riding his goldwing and later traveling by motor home with friends in their years of retirement together.
Roger is survived by his three daughters: Peggy Armstrong of Camak, GA, Cindy Lowry (Dwayne) of Marthasville, MO, and
Cathy Nolan (Mike) of Valparaiso, IN; his brother, Joseph DeCelles and sisters, Kathleen Skodinski and Ruth Cummings; as well as many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Esther (Conrad) DeCelles; his daughter, Penny Emerson; his parents, Florence and George Sr.; his brother, George and his sister, Pat.
A memorial service is being held at American Legion Post 502 in Valparaiso, Indiana on Friday, September 24 from 5-9pm. Roger proudly served as their first commander back in 1968.
Roger will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him!
