Lola Goeken Obituary

Lola Lee Dorris Goeken was born on June 22, 1946, to Thomas Eugene Dorris and Laura Estell Woodall Dorris in Trenton, Michigan.  She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Laura Estell; her father, Thomas E. Dorris; her brother, Roy Dorris; her sister, Linda Dorris; her first husband, Clyde L. Johnson; and her second husband, Gregory E. Goeken.

Lola leaves behind her two children, whom she always said were her greatest accomplishments in life; her son, Clyde L. Johnson (Julie), and her daughter, Amy E. Hoffman (Mitchell).

She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren; Emilee Johnson, Sarah Johnson Barbagallo (Joe), Kristen Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, and her only grandson, Jacob Hoffman. Lola was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Joey Barbagallo.

She is survived by five stepchildren; Lauri Lock, Jenny Cunningham, Scott Goeken, Ryan Goeken, Brooke Goeken; and ten step-grandchildren.

Lola is also survived by her sisters, Helen Anson (Ron), Shirley Woodrum, Patricia Stein (Michael), and her brothers, Everett Dorris, Russell Dorris, and Thomas Dorris (Laura).

Lola lived a full and varied life. In her younger years she worked as a carhop at Dog-N-Suds in the mid-1960’s while in high school. She later enjoyed a memorable chapter working for Ross Perot at EDS. She went on to retire from Express Scripts as an Eligibility Client Service Representative in 2001 after ten years of service-retiring the same year she married her second husband, Greg.

Lola loved people deeply and remained close with many of her grade-school friends throughout her life. Her faith in God guided her daily, and she often spoke about how blessed she felt to have been raised in a Christian home with Godly parents. She adored them and carried their teachings with her always.

Her favorite saying was, “Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today, for tomorrow may never come.” Lola had a special love for Ronnie McDowell’s song "I Could See Jesus in you.”

Her request for her loved ones is simple:

“Don’t sit and cry for me when I’m gone. Live life to its fullest and know that I am in a better place. We will be together again on the other side. And always-always-put God first in your life.”
