Marilyn Ann Smith passed away on June 30, 2025 at the age of 88. She was born on February 20, 1937 daughter of Clyde and Myrtle Gale. Marilyn was raised in a large family, one of nine siblings.
She is survived by her four children, Ronald Albers, Bonita (Dennis) Vielweber, Karen (Brian) Schneider, Karla (Mark) Branham; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Vielweber, Jason (Caitlin) Vielweber, Brittany (Taylor) Schaltenbrand, Cullen Schneider, Wade (Caitlin Altendorf) Schneider, Mark (Jodi) Branham, Krystal (David) Hagerman, Matt (Cailan Williams) Branham, Mike (Jaclyn) Branham, Kandyce (Aaron) Bergmann, Kameryn Branham; 17 great-grandchildren, Julianna, Sienna, Cache, Kennedy, Hunter, Jace, Tristan, Parker, Ayla, Cameron, Eastyn, Adalynn, Mack, Briella, Braylee, Lucas, and Owen.
After raising her beloved family of four, Marilyn began a dedicated 35-year career at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL, where she served as a Central Processing Technician. Her commitment to caring for others also led her to work as a Physical Therapy Secretary during her time at the hospital. She retired in 2002.
Marilyn found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved a good cup of very hot coffee, watching classic western movies while wrapped in a cozy blanket, and playing cards-especially Rummy-with family. Her greatest happiness came from spending time with her loved ones and creating cherished memories, particularly during the holiday season. In her later years she could be found in her recliner listening to the great-grandkids playing and laughing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Myrtle (Bryan) Gale, granddaughter, Denise Ann Vielweber, and granddaughter-in-law, Christa Schneider.
Marilyn’s warmth, strength, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
