Mary Jane Pohlig, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on February 6, 2025, at the age of 87, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
A proud graduate of St. Anthony's High School in South St. Louis where she enjoyed playing basketball and tennis. She devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mom, always present to cheer on her children at their sports events. Family was the center of Mary’s world; her life revolved around creating cherished memories with her loved ones. Known for her remarkable compassion and selflessness, Mary never uttered a negative word about anyone. Her rare kindness touched the hearts of all who knew her, making her a cherished presence in the lives of many.
Mary had a passion for capturing special moments through photography, though she often preferred to stay behind the camera rather than be in front of it. A lover of nostalgia, she had a special fondness for the 1950s and 1960s and enjoyed reminiscing about those vibrant times. Mary also had an unwavering love for jazz music and a sweet tooth for desserts, often indulging in both. Mary will be profoundly missed by her family and the countless friends whose lives she brightened with her generosity and spirit.
She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Pohlig of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri; her two sons, Jeffrey Pohlig and John (Stacey) Pohlig, both of Newport Beach, CA; daughter, Julie (Andres Muñoz) Pohlig of Uvita, Costa Rica; brother, Robert Valentine of Camdenton, MO; grandchildren, Cade and Cannon Pohlig; and several nieces and nephews; She is preceded in death by her father, William Valentine, mother, Viola Valentine (nee Herbst), brother, Bill Valentine, sister, Joan Menk, brother-in-law, George Menk, and sister-in-law, Jan Valentine.
