Maxine Birdsong Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of our mother, Maxine Birdsong of Wentzville, Missouri.  Maxine died at the age of 80 on January 30, 2023.  She passed away surrounded by her loved ones after a short battle with cancer.

Maxine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Howard (Pete) Birdsong, her parents, Woodrow and Agnes Crittendon, her in-laws, Milford and Grace Birdsong, and her brothers, Johnny and Michael Crittendon.

Maxine was survived by her sister, Sandy Morrison and her brother, Bob Crittendon; her 4 children:  Steve Birdsong, Dennis (Cathy) Birdsong, Cheryl Marler and Nicole (Jeff) Besselman; 7 grandchildren Jolene (Esteban) Hernandez, Justin Marler, Talon Birdsong, Makenzie Marler, Steven Birdsong, Ian and Jackson Besselman and her great granddaughter, Serenity Hernandez.
Maxine was an avid sports fan and found no better joy than cheering on her children and grandchildren at their sporting events.  Her favorite sports teams were the St. Louis Cardinals and the Mizzou football team.  Maxine enjoyed traveling whether it was climbing the Grand Canyon, going on a cruise, sitting on the beach or hiking in the mountains.  Maxine was a friend to everyone through her hospitality and service.  She was known for throwing the best parties and was lovingly given the nickname the "hostess with the mostess".  She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and enjoyed spending time with her sorority sisters.

In her later years, the simplest pleasures in life brought joy to Maxine.  She spent her time walking with friends in her neighborhood, attending book club, playing bunco or having a glass of wine with a friend.

Maxine's voice will echo in memories you hold, her smile will warm you through stories retold; her love will touch you in spirit each day, her life will be treasured in beautiful ways.
