Melvin Walls of Augusta, Missouri, passed away on August 29, 2025 at the age of 97. He was the beloved husband of the late Billie Walls (nee:Argent); He is survived by his three sons, Mark (Sandy) Walls of Marthasville, MO, Tim (Colleen) Walls of Defiance, MO, Matt (Donna) Walls of Augusta, MO; daughter, Becky Adams of Washington, MO; two sisters, Barbara Apted, Mary Barry; grandchildren, Marty (Patty), Eva (Dean), Kate (Matt), Luke (Ashly), Cory (Scott), Jordan (Shannon), Cody and Samantha; sixteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; He is preceded in death by his father, Earl Walls, mother, Marcella Walls (nee: Lauck), brother, Albert Walls, sister-in-law, Verna Walls, brother-in-laws, Stephen Apted and Tom Barry.
Melvin was born and raised in Berkley, Missouri. He graduated from Berkley High School before joining the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country. After his military service, Melvin met his future wife, Billie, at a softball game. They married in 1950 and were blessed with four children: Mark, Tim, Matt, and Becky. Melvin and Billie celebrated 59 years of marriage before her passing in 2010.
Melvin worked for Bangert Bros. Construction for 41 years as a heavy equipment operator and was a proud member of Local 513 for 70 years. He and Billie made their home in Augusta for 54 years, where Melvin became a well-known member of the community. He was even interviewed for the "Tell It Like It Was" in Augusta, reflecting on his experiences and memories. Melvin was an active volunteer in his community, helping maintain cemeteries for the Boone Duden Historical Society, supporting the Augusta Plein Art Festival, lending his time to the Augusta Visitor Center and volunteering his time at Wilderness Lodge in Lesterville, Missouri. In retirement, Melvin and Billie enjoyed traveling together, exploring new places and making lasting memories. Melvin was also an avid bottle collector, displaying an impressive collection over the years. He found joy in watching birds and appreciating the simple pleasures of life. Melvin will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
