Merle Roy Cochran Obituary

Merle Roy Cochran passed away on February 10, 2025, in Lake St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 93. Born on September 24, 1931, in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, son of Roy and Hester Cochran. He grew up alongside his sisters, Ruth Fahrnkopf, Zelda Bouch, and Gertrude "Larue" Nelson, all of whom preceded him in death.

After serving his country in the U.S. Army, Merle embarked on a distinguished career as a Systems Analyst at General Electric, where he dedicated over 30 years of service.

On October 10, 1956, Merle married the love of his life, Shirley Cochran (nee Puskar), in a union that would span nearly seven decades. Merle is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley, of Wentzville, Missouri; his two sons, Alan Cochran of Columbus, Ohio, and Bruce (Diane) Cochran of Wentzville, Missouri; and his adored granddaughters, Megan (Clay) Chamberlain of St. Louis, Missouri, and Lauren Cochran of O'Fallon, Missouri.

A true fan at heart, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers. His love for card games, especially Solitaire, was matched only by his fondness for travel. Hawaii held a special place in his heart as his favorite destination, but he loved weekend getaways with his wife.

Most of all, Merle cherished time spent with his family and friends.
