Michael Edwards Obituary

Michael “Big Mike” Lee Edwards passed away peacefully at home on January 21st, 2025 at the age of 72. Husband of 47 years to Barbara (nee Grothe); father of Nathan (Emily) Edwards, Daniel (Ashley) Edwards, Christina (Harold) Smith; Grandpa to Jeremy Jr., Michael, Mason, Reis, Hudson, and Sutton; Great-Grandpa to Nicolette; Brother to Mary Ann, Mark, Donna, and Randy. Preceded in death by his parents Carroll and Lorene, sister Marcia, sons Jeremy and Timothy, and niece Grace.

He was born at Fort Leavenworth in Leavenworth, Kansas. Mike spent much time on the road as a truck driver, often with Barb in tow, traveling the country. He had many hobbies including racing, fishing and making his own sinkers, hunting, and gardening. Mike was a gun enthusiast, a lover of music, and enjoyed telling stories with friends. He loved building motors, known as “gearhead” to many, he was meticulous in his craft. He would recruit his kids to help and was often heard saying “hold the damn flashlight still!”. Mike was happiest when he was riding his Harley on the open road, jamming to his favorite tunes.

Mike was a proud member of the Warrenton Masonic Lodge #609. He was the Lodge’s Worshipful Master and took great pride in assisting in the refurbishment of the Lodge, the backpacks for kids program, Lodge breakfasts, and other charitable events. He was also a Shriner and helped raise money for kids in need of medical care and served his community. Known as “Tail Gunner”, Mike was a 32-degree Scottish Rite Mason and former President of the Widows Sons Motorcycle Association where he created a brotherhood among his fellow motorcycle riders.
