Michael Madonna Obituary

Mike and his wife, Barbara raised their family in Florissant, Missouri. In his retirement, he and his beloved wife, Barbara, made their home in Wentzville, where they enjoyed many years together.

Mike grew up in North St. Louis in an apartment on Dodier St. above his father’s shoe repair shop across the street from Sportman’s Park. The shop repaired shoes and mitts for Cardinal and Browns players in addition to players from visiting teams across major league baseball in the 1920’s through the 1940’s. Mike had many childhood adventures delivering shoes to MLB players and receiving coaching lessons from Dizzy Dean while playing stick ball on the street.

Mike obtained BS and Master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from Washington University. He then pursued a career in aerospace at McDonnell Douglas spanning over 35 years where he advanced to the cruise missile guidance system program manager and other program manager and director positions.

Family was at the heart of Mike’s life. He loved boating with family on the Mississippi River and large BBQ’s at their farm on the river. Mike and Barb also enjoyed extensive travel in their RV trailer to Florida and many other destinations.

He was preceded in death by only five weeks by his beloved wife of almost 67 years, Barbara Madonna; He is survived by his six children, David (Shelley) Madonna, Cathy (Dan Gibbons) Madonna, Susan (Scott) Welch, Jim (Ellen) Madonna, Janet (Paul) Silker, and Laura (Mike) Haller; his grandchildren, Elise Madonna, Claire Madonna, Nathaniel (Rachel) Madonna, Theresa (Kevin) Olson, Scott (Maggi) Welch, Caroline Haller, and Audrey Haller; and his great-grandchildren, Maren, Charlotte, Addie, Adele, and Aiden.
