Pat Whiteside Obituary

Patricia Ann Whiteside (nee: Lee), 94, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Pat was born in St. Louis, Missouri. To Orban A. Lee and Wanda J. (nee: Church) Grenlie. As a little girl her mother often referred to her as Patsy. She was close in age to her brother Jack and they were great friends growing up. She graduated from Cleveland High School where she made lifelong friends.

Pat always had a love of animals which continued through her life. She was fiercely independent and without knowing anyone, moved to Maryland to take a job at Enterprise Farm. There she was in charge of breeding, raising, and training AKC Champion Westies as well as other breeds of dogs. She traveled around the US participating in numerous dog shows each year. She was also able to interact with a number of other animals on the farm including cats and horses. She became very close to the family that owned the farm and eventually became a caretaker to them as their health declined.

Pat loved to travel and was able to visit many places around the world including two of her favorites, England and China. She also loved to read having a collection of classic books. She enjoyed many genres, but especially murder mysteries. When she retired, she returned to St. Louis and volunteered at the Zoo as a docent. She enjoyed learning about the animals there as well as sharing knowledge with guests of the zoo.

Pat will be remembered for her love of animals and her kindness to others. She had many friends in her apartment complex and enjoyed getting together with them regularly.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents Orban A. Lee and Wanda J. (nee: Church) Grenlie and her brother Jack Lee and his wife Shirley. She is survived by her niece Lori (Dave) Combs and nephew Daryl Lee; and great nieces Christine Combs and Amanda (Evan) Melgren.

Memorials may be made to: The Humane Society of Missouri, 1201 Macklind Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63110.
