Penelope "Penny" Corkery Obituary

Penny was born in St. Louis on May 27, 1951 and entered Eternal Rest in Heaven on June 4, 2025. Penny lived a full and vibrant life; impacting all who knew her with her warmth, strength, and incredible spirit.

Penny was a standout athlete in High School, excelling in both track and softball. The boys never wanted to run against her in track— just ask her classmates from the Webster Groves class of 1969. She loved photography. She was involved in Girl Scouts with Erin E. for many years. She attended every Little League game for Chris.

Although she was an animal lover in general, dogs held a special place in her heart. She was a part of the dog show world for most of her life with her youngest, Jessica, being present at most all events.

She was a lifelong lover of music of many genres; but Motown was her favorite. She loved to dance!

In the 1990s, Penny made significant contributions to the medical field by helping to build the creation of what is today considered a Medical Billing & Coding College Degree. Her work in this field helped shape the careers of many in the industry today and is an important part of her legacy.

Penny's family was her greatest joy.

Penny is survived by her devoted Husband, Allen “Al” Corkery; her children, Erin E. Thero (Jason Murphy), Christopher “Chris” (Erin Marie) Thero, and Jessica (Garry) Coffey; her grandchildren, Christopher & Erin Marie’s children Rachel, Brooke, & Jace, Erin E. & Jason’s daughter Danika, and Jessica & Garry’s children Christopher, Marcus, twins Lucius & Xavier, Zia, Gibson, and Oona.

Penny was greeted at the Gates of Heaven by her loving parents Robert “Bob” & Madelyn Hopper, her Brother Robert “Bob” Hopper Jr., her Brother-in-Law Herman Chadbourne.

We know Penny was dancing with joy when she met Erin E’s son, her Grandson, Brayden at the Gates of Heaven.

As a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, Penny shared her love of baseball with her entire family. Including her survived Siblings: Dotty (Late Herman) Chadbourne, Betsy (David) Osterander, Jackie (Terry) St.Clair, Sister-in-Law Karen (Late Bob Jr.) Hopper.

Penny is also survived by: 11 Nieces & Nephews, and 16 Great Nieces & Nephews.

Penny’s Children and Grandchildren were her most precious joy in life. Penny was like a Mom to countless friends of Erin E., Chris & Jessica; who were always thankful for advice & admired her strength and kindness.

Penny was known for her remarkable ability to march to the beat of her own drum. Her classmates and friends would describe her as a “friend to all.” Penny was always the “cool” Mom & friend. Someone who made everyone feel welcome and loved. Penny was the epitome of grace, courage and independence. Penny’s strength and loyalty were unmatched. Penny will forever be remembered for her unshakeable love for her Husband, Children, Grandchildren, Family & Friends.

A celebration of Penny's life will be held on: Saturday, June 28th, 2025, at Lifepoint Church, located at 8980 Mexico Road, O'Fallon, MO 63366.

Visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, with a small service to follow at 1:30 PM.

A Memorial Party will be held immediately following at: Millwoods Sports Bar and Grill, 1826 W Pearce Blvd, Wentzville, MO 63385

The family requests that guests come in dressed casually—Penny would want that. Her favorite color was purple, feel free to wear something in honor of her memory!

Murphy, and will be accepted at Lifepoint Church as well as at the memorial party at Millwoods Sports Bar and Grill, 1826 W Pearce Blvd, Wentzville, MO 63385  to help cover Penny’s remaining bills (regular & medical) as well as lost time from work absences. Penny's family thanks you for your love and support during this time of finding a “new normal.”

There will be an opportunity to share stories and memories of Penny at both the funeral and the Memorial Party. If you would like to speak at either event, please contact Erin E. Thero at erinthero@gmail.com
