Robert Rogers Jr. Obituary

Robert Leroy, “Bob”, Rogers, Jr., 79, passed peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024, with family by his side. Bob was the oldest of three children born to Yvonne née Englund and Robert L. Rogers, Sr. in Sedalia, Missouri on June 29, 1944. After graduating from Riverview Gardens High School in 1962, Bob went on to Central Missouri State College after receiving a scholarship to play basketball. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou Quasebarth, and they recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

Bob earned a Master’s degree in Physical Education and Administration in 1967 and began his teaching career at Raytown South Junior High School in Raytown, Missouri. After moving back to St. Louis, Bob worked for the Hazelwood School District where he became the Department Chairman of Physical Education. In 1981 Bob retired from teaching and coaching to begin a new career designing museums and tradeshows where he was a founding partner in Ginkgo Design, Inc. Some of his favorite projects were: Pere Marquette State Park, Mastodon State Park, Washington University’s Earth and Planetary Sciences exhibit, The Changes exhibit at Illinois State Museum and The National Horseshoe Pitchers Museum.

Bob and Mary Lou have three children: Kimberly Ann, Lisa Christine, and Robert Lawrence Rogers. They lived in Florissant, Missouri and were members of Florissant Valley Baptist Church. In 1997 they moved to Defiance, Missouri and are currently members of Red Tree Church - New Melle.

Bob wore many titles: husband, dad, brother, son, friend, teammate, teacher, coach, business owner, and, perhaps his most well known title, artist. He began painting while in college but with recent health issues, it became too challenging. Bob also loved music and the last two years God gifted Bob with a new singing talent. He often serenaded friends at church, people at the grocery store and the staff at his doctor’s office. Two of his favorite songs were Hello Mary Lou by Ricky Nelson and I’m Goin’ to Kansas City by Wilbert Harrison.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Edward Rogers; his sister, Vickie Marie Rogers; his mother, Yvonne Rogers née Englund; and his father, Robert L. Rogers, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Rogers née Quasebarth, his children Kimberly (Steve) Jones; Lisa (Mark) Lapp; and Robert (Lisa) Rogers; his sister Carolyn (Joel) Allen; and four grandchildren, Mason Jones (Mike Deck); Madison (Jonathan) Perrin; Jacob Lapp and Gwyneth Lapp.
