Roy Patterson Obituary

Roy A. Patterson II, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 16, 2025, in Jonesburg, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 20, 1951, in Mexico, Missouri, Roy lived a quiet but meaningful life rooted in kindness, hard work, and deep devotion to the people he loved.

A lifelong resident of Jonesburg, Roy was the cherished son of the late Paul Eugene Patterson and Cora Ann Patterson/Dayball, and the stepson of Samuel Dayball. He shared a close bond with his sisters—Paula Adams (husband Dick) of Wellsville, MO; Theresa Evans; and Lu Ann Patterson (husband Bob Mohar) of Crossville, TN—as well as his nieces and nephews, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randy and Sally Golden of Walnut Ridge, AR. Roy was lucky to share his life with many cherished friends.

On August 18, 1973, Roy married the love of his life, Sue Lee Patterson. Over 52 years of marriage, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and enduring love. Roy was a devoted father to Heather Suzanne Patterson, Sara Christine Patterson, and Trey Patterson (spouse Emily). His greatest joy came from his grandchildren, Paige and Bailey Patterson, who lit up his life and always found the best lap to cuddle on.

Roy was a man of few words but endless heart—a soft-spoken, steady presence who was deeply respected by all who knew him. He never needed to raise his voice to be heard. With a well-worn pair of jeans and an Original ChapStick always in his pocket, he was a familiar and comforting figure. His quiet sense of humor delighted children, especially when he’d magically pull a quarter from behind their ears, leaving them wide-eyed and smiling.

Professionally, Roy was incredibly skilled and hardworking. He carried on the family legacy by running Star Garage, a third-generation autobody repair business, before lending his talents as a mechanic at Harold Casper and Sons, and later as a heavy equipment mechanic at Fred Weber. His craftsmanship was meticulous, and his work ethic unwavering—qualities admired by coworkers and customers alike.

Through every challenge, Roy showed remarkable grace and resilience. He faced life’s battles with quiet courage and a positive spirit that uplifted those around him. He left a lasting legacy not only in his work, but in the way he lived—with humility, strength, and deep love for his family

Roy’s family will hold a private funeral with a celebration of life to follow in November.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the MS Society in Roy’s memory, honoring his generous heart and lifelong support for meaningful causes.
