A Life Well Lived

On Wednesday May, 13, 2026, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and matriarch peacefully transitioned at the remarkable age of 101½ years old. Her long life was a testament to strength, grace, resilience, and unwavering love for her family.

She was born on November 13, 1924, in Manchester, Missouri where she attended Booker T. Washington School. She met the love of her life, Eland Williams Jr., at a birthday party, where his kindness, handsome appearance, and sharp sense of style first caught her attention. That chance meeting blossomed into a beautiful marriage that lasted 72 devoted years. The two later relocated to Kansas City before eventually making Wentzville their home.

She was preceded in death by her parents Richard Hayes Gilbert Smith and Suzie Randell-Smith, brother Richard Hayes Gilbert Smith Jr., a daughter Marsha E. Smith and husband Eland Williams Jr. and two daughters in-law, Pam Williams and Rochelle Williams.

She was a woman who carried herself with quiet confidence and dignity. Always poised and well put together, she believed in doing things with care and excellence. She created a home rooted in warmth, tradition, and togetherness.

She enjoyed life’s simple but meaningful moments: making beautiful quilts and crocheting, watching her husband work in the yard, working puzzles, cooking delicious meals, and spending time with those she loved most. Sarah was also a Mother at her church where her hands and heart touched generations through the lessons she passed down and the memories she helped create.

More than anything, she was a steady and loving presence in the lives of her family. Through every season of life, she remained a source of wisdom, wit, and strength. She leaves to cherish her memory her two devoted sons,George Henry Williams and Eland Williams III, along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by her love and example.

Her legacy will continue to live on through the family she nurtured, the traditions she preserved, and the countless lives she touched over the course of more than a century.
