Shirley M. (Sontag) Weinzerl

Shirley Weinzerl of O’Fallon, Missouri, passed away on May 15, 2026, at the age of 84.

Shirley was born on March 19, 1942, in Dexter, Missouri, the daughter of Walter and Ruth Sontag. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Wentzville, she spent much of her time enjoying the fellowship and activities at the Wentzville Senior Center, and participated in TOPS in Wright City. 

Shirley found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved reading, working puzzles, watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, and visiting the casino. She had an extensive clown collection and was well known for her sweet tooth. One of her favorite pastimes was going on lunch dates with family and friends, creating memories over good food and conversation. Above all, Shirley cherished her family and the time she spent with them.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Tammy (Doug) Richard; her daughter-in-law, Karen Weinzerl; five grandchildren, Christina, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Jacob, and Mandy; eight great-grandchildren, Emily, Linsey, Ariana, Malarie, Elijah, Brooke, Bella, and Ethan; and four great-great-grandchildren, Braelyn, Ansley, Baylor, and Banks.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Raymond G. Weinzerl; her sons, Donnie J. Weinzerl and Danny J. Weinzerl; her parents, Walter M. Sontag and Ruth M. Sontag (née Lane); her brothers, Bob Sontag, Joe Sontag, and Sonny Sontag; and her sisters, Ilena Jennings and Mary Lee Luster.

Shirley was affectionately known as "Grandma with the candy" and will be remembered for her love of family, her kind spirit, and the joy she found in spending time with those she loved.
