Virgil Barton Obituary

Virgil David Barton, of Shelbina, Missouri, formerly of Jonesburg, passed away on December 24, 2025, at the age of 90. He was born on September 22, 1935, in Black, Missouri, to the late Willis and Lydia (Smith) Barton.

Virgil is survived by his beloved wife, Anna  Barton nee Norman, his children Debbie (Jack) McFarland, David (Judi) Barton, Donna (John) Richardson, and Diane (Donnie) Corder; his siblings Geneva Reel, Louise (Sam) Reel, Ronald (Susie) Barton,  Wilma (Pat) Kelling; brother‑in‑law John (Donna) Norman; sisters‑in‑law Phyliss Norman and Cindy Norman and by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren: Jonathan (Carrie) McFarland, Sarah Peck, Heather (Mauricio) Toro, Joshua (Sarah) Barton, Crystin Barton, Caleb (Stephanie) Barton, Jacob (Jasmine) Schaefer, Abigail Schaefer, Amy Richardson, Amber (Jacob) McBain, Nikki Corder, Katie (AJ) Rolston, Zachary (Stevina) Corder, and Krystal (George) Schulze; 34 great‑grandchildren: Ashlyn, Keller, Josie, Silas, Samuel, David, Isabel, Olivia, Tiana, Joshua Jr., Isabella, Georgia, Adylee, Serenity, Maverick, Scarlett, Isaiah, Owen, Hazel, Violet, Jaxtyn, Denzil, Kobe, Trystan, Laila, Ethan, Alex, Eli, Evie, Sophie, Madelyn, Tommy, Tyler, and Travis; 1 great-great-grandson Henry.

Virgil is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Norman , Billy , Ova , Bobby, and Larry Barton; Daphine Shepard, Ellawies Henderson, and RuthAnn Barton; and two grandson‑in‑laws, Adam Peck and Chris Senn; great-grandson, Wyatt

Virgil proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957. After returning home, he married Anna F. Norman in December 1957 in Mexico. He worked for Artcraft Packaging in Jonesburg for 42 years. Alongside his full‑time work, he served his community as a Sergeant with the Jonesburg Police Department, a Reserve Deputy for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and a volunteer with the Jonesburg Fire Department, as well as working for the City of Jonesburg. He was a member of the Jonesburg Lions Club.

After retiring from Artcraft in 2005, Virgil continued serving others through his work with the Warrenton School District and the Jonesburg Nursing Home. He was known for his generosity, his tireless work ethic, and his love for the Jonesburg community, but most of all his deep love and devotion for his family. 

In his free time, Virgil enjoyed woodworking, camping, gardening, yardwork, Cardinal baseball, Khoury League baseball, and taking peaceful walks around Jonesburg. He was a man who never sat still and found joy in helping others. The last 2 years Virgil has resided at Shelbina Villa, and the family would like to send a special thanks to the staff for the excellent care. 


Virgil will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
