William Junk Obituary

William Oscar Junk passed away on January 6th, 2021 at 11:42 am in Lake St. Louis, MO. He was born October 30, 1938 to William “Francis” Junk and Neva Elizabeth (nee Breen) Junk in Sandpoint ID. The Junks were a farming family and moved many times before settling in Quincy, IL. After Bill graduated from Quincy High School, he joined the United States Air Force. He was blessed to meet the love of his life, Barbara Lemler, through a cousin while he was attending Rankin Tech School studying Automotive Body Repair. Bill and Barb were married December 23, 1964 in Overland, MO. Bill then decided to move to Wright City MO and open his own body shop in 1965. He was well known for his skill and continued to hone his craft until he and Barb made the decision to purchase a Mac Tool business in 1978. Bill became “The Tool Man”. Many kids in Wright City wore jerseys that carried the name of “Bill’s Tools” as Bill was a frequent sponsor of any team that needed support. Bill and his best friend Wil Heiliger were recruited to join the Wright City Lion’s Club and a true love of Bill’s was born. He served as a member and Treasurer for many years. Bill’s favorite events were Bingo and the Circus. He was a driving force to make both of these events a longstanding success in Wright City. Bill loved spending time with the community and supporting his organization. Bill was also a lover of boating, fishing, and water skiing. Bill decided to retire in 1993 at the age of 55 so he could pursue the things he loved and enjoyed in his life. He and Barb enjoyed gardening and many trips with friends. Bill grew to love driving the motorhome and traveling with close friends. Bill was a man who had a tough exterior, but he was a very caring and compassionate man and that is evidenced by the number of people he was able to mentor throughout his life. Nothing gave Bill more pleasure than being able to teach someone a new skill that they would follow and master. He found great joy in helping others to be successful.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, one Sister-In-Law Janet Junk and one Brother In-Law, William VanOs. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Barb Junk, one Brother, Howard Junk of Quincy, IL and one Sister, Betty (nee Junk) VanOs of Quincy, IL, and several Nieces, Nephews, Great, and Great-Great Nieces and Nephews. Bill will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and his community. Memorials may be made in Bills name to the donor’s choice.
