William Van Gels Obituary

William Joseph "Bill" Van Gels, age 72, passed away on April 6, 2026, with his family by his side. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Julia Van Gels, and step-mother, Gretchen Van Gels.

Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, stepbrother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Christine (Mrzlack) Van Gels. He was a proud father to William Van Gels II (Alisa), Tim Van Gels (Andrea), Michelle (Van Gels) Palubiak (Scott), John Van Gels (Katie); and his grandchildren Willie, Ali, Ellie, Paul, Timmy, Nathan, Olivia, Charlotte, and Garrett.

He is survived by his brothers Larry, George Van Gels and Patrick May, sisters Barb Booth, Mary Ann Brader, Katy Kraus, Debi Van Gels and Suzanne May.

Most of his life was spent in St. Charles, Missouri where he built a long and successful career in the bakery and grocery industry, earning the nick name, "The Cookie Man". He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication and pride. He proudly passed these traits to his children.

Bill was a supportive husband and ever-present father who took immense pride in his children and their accomplishments. He cherished family gatherings and treasured time spent with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He enjoyed traveling with family, especially trips to Table Rock Lake. At home, he was a proud St. Louis sports fan, cheering for the Cardinals, Blues, and Rams.

He will be deeply missed and remembered for his warm smiles, sense of humor, and generous heart. Thank you, Bill, for all the memories.
