William J. Zollmann III Obituary
William John Zollmann III, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on August 20, 1943, Bill was the beloved son of the late William J. Zollmann Jr. and Ruth Sieber Zollmann, and the cherished son-in-law of the late Harvey Borgelt and Marie Aulbert Borgelt. He grew up in Ferguson, Missouri, and moved to Wentzville as a teenager, where he remained for the rest of his life.
Bill was the devoted husband of 60 years to Joyce Borgelt Zollmann and a loving father to Gayle (Vincent) Keil and Jay (Ria) Zollmann. He was a proud and cherished grandfather to Magnolia, Haley, Henry, and Oscar Keil, and Clayton and Chase Zollmann, all of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sister, Jane Mayer; his brother, Steven (Judy) Zollmann; his sister-in-law, Joann Palmer; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lora Jayne.
Bill graduated from Wentzville High School in 1961 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Honors College at the University of Missouri, followed by a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri School of Law. He was admitted to practice law by the Missouri Supreme Court in 1967.
For 52 years, Bill faithfully served the Wentzville community as an attorney. Throughout his distinguished legal career, he also maintained offices in St. Charles and Dutzow, serving generations of families with dedication, integrity, and compassion. His specialties in estate planning and real estate law earned him the trust and respect of both clients and colleagues alike.
A devoted civic leader and volunteer, Bill generously gave his time and talents to countless organizations. He was a dedicated member and Past President of the Wentzville Rotary Club; a member of the Missouri and St. Charles County Bar Associations; City Attorney for Wentzville; and a member of the Wentzville Planning and Zoning Commission. He also served with the Wentzville Jaycees, the Wentzville and New Melle Chambers of Commerce, and as President and Director of the Wentzville School Board for 15 years.
Bill was President of the Linn Cemetery Association, Vice Chair of the Dakota Boys Ranch Association, a member of the Wentzville Community Historical Society, Band Boosters, Athletic Boosters, and the New Melle Friendship Society. He was one of the original organizers of the Senior Citizens Corporation, served as Director of the Commerce Bank Advisory Board, and was Trustee of the Walter & Jean Voelkerding Charitable Trust. He also coached numerous Little League football and baseball teams, taking special pride in mentoring young athletes in the community.
One of Bill’s greatest contributions to Wentzville was conceiving the idea for Rotary Park and helping bring it to fruition, creating a lasting place for families and future generations to enjoy.
His many contributions were recognized through numerous honors and awards, including the Distinguished Service Award from the Lake St. Louis Chamber, the Wentzville Chamber Volunteer Award, induction into the Wentzville School District Alumni Hall of Fame, recognition in Who’s Who in American Law, the Southwestern Telephone Volunteer Award, the Deutsch Country Days Volunteer Award, and designation as a Paul Harris Fellow.
Outside of his legal career, Bill enjoyed a life deeply rooted in family, faith, and the outdoors. He loved hunting, reloading ammunition, and especially farming his land. A faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, he rarely missed cheering on the Cardinals, watching classic westerns, or attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. Nothing brought him greater pride and joy than supporting his grandchildren in all they pursued.
Bill will be remembered for his deep love of family, steadfast faith, unwavering commitment to his profession and community, and the kindness, wisdom, and generosity he shared with everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on through the family he treasured so dearly and the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable life of service.
We are especially grateful for the compassionate care Bill received from the nurses at Fresenius Dialysis in Wentzville, as well as from his renal, cardiac and pulmonary specialists at St. Luke’s Hospital, whose dedication and kindness meant so much to him and his family.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Linn Cemetery Association, the Wentzville Rotary Club Foundation, or the Wentzville Community Historical Society in honor of Bill’s life and legacy.
