William Henry Groeper of Wright City, Missouri passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at the age of 92 years.
Mr. Groeper is survived by two children, Jack Groeper and wife, Mary of Wright City and Katherine McFarland and husband, Rodney of Grove, OK; six grandchildren, Leah Taylor and husband, Seth, Cara Ballard and husband, Shawn, Aaryn McClintock and husband, Scott, Sarah Ohlmeier and husband, Joshua, Kacey Weaver and husband, Bret, and Kristin King and husband, Brian; 8 great grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends.
William was born January 19, 1928 in Wright City; son of the late Karl William Groeper and wife, Edna Helena (Ordelheide) Groeper.
Bill graduated from Wright City High School in 1945. After graduation, he joined the Merchant Marines. He was a World War II veteran and proudly served his country in the United States Army as part of the occupation force in Japan. In 1949, Bill was united in marriage to Miss Mildred Faye Lichte and two children were born to this marriage. In 1955, Bill and Mildred purchased the Economy Supermarket in Wright City and it remained family owned until 2015.
Bill was active in the Wright City community having served as a fireman for 50 years, past Alderman, civil defense board, school board, Chamber of Commerce, and was past recipient of Wright City person of the year. He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ where he had served on the church council.
Bill loved to travel and made friends wherever he went. He loved his family and treasured all the time he spent with each of them.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred and one sister, Peggy Joyce Gutermuth.

The family will announce a memorial service at a later date.
Bill will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
