Windell C. "Curt" Baker, a proud veteran and devoted family man, passed away on July 23, 2025 at the age of 81. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966 and remained deeply patriotic throughout his life. While serving in the U. S. Army he met and married Nancy (Cary) Baker. Together they raised three children. A dedicated member of VFW Post 5651 in New Melle, MO, Curt served on the Honor Guard and held the position of chaplain for several years.
Above all, Curt cherished his family. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids, and those moments brought him the greatest happiness.
After his military service, Curt worked at General Motors for 35 years, where he was known for his strong work ethic and loyalty. Outside of work, he found joy in the outdoors—boating, fishing, and hunting were some of his favorite pastimes. He was also a gifted storyteller, entertaining friends and family with vivid tales and a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Nancy (Cary) Baker of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri; his three children, Curt (Mariam) Baker of Wentzville, MO, Jim (Teresa Branch) Baker of Defiance, MO, Susan (Kevin) Schmittling-Pelkey of Lake St. Louis, MO; sister, Marsha (Glenn Darensbourg) Carmichael of Luling, LA; ten grandchildren, Amanda (Jordan) Lemon, Becca (Emily) Baker, Laura (Levi) Swenson, Jaden Ellinger, Jackson Roberts, Nicolas Roberts, Michael Roberts, Jacob (Maria) Schmittling, Cary (Nick Jacquin) Schmittling, and Bailey Pelkey; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Curt is preceded in death by his father, Adolph Baker, mother, Mary Louise (Talbot) Baker, and brother, George "Shorty" Baker.
